Earshot Announce 'Humaning,' Their First Album In Over 15 Years

You were probably expecting a joke here about how they sound like Tool. Guess again!

Earshot are back with a new record, Humaning, their first full-length album of new music since 2008's The Silver Lining. Most known for their breakout hit, "Get Away" back in 2002, the Los Angeles band was dismissed by many for sounding too much like alternative metal pioneers (and fellow LA natives) Tool. While the vocals on their debut, Letting Go, had their share of Maynard-isms, the band has since developed a sound that stands on its own, both more accessible and wide-ranging in its influences.

This album marks the first release of the 2020 iteration of the band and the first Earshot release since 2015's Aftermath EP. The band had this to say:

"We’ve worked harder on this record than anything before. Humaning is every ounce of our struggles, resilience, questions, and hope poured into one body of work.
It’s lyrically charged, sonically heavy and melodic, pulling from the raw intensity of Letting Go and the heaviness of TWO.
Born from one of the hardest chapters of my life, these songs carry the weight of indecision, abandonment, disappointment, growth, and ultimately acceptance. It’s about rediscovering strength, letting go of what we can’t control, and remembering that life isn’t about being perfect, it’s about doing the best we can and moving forward.
This album is more than 11 songs. It’s about survival, healing, hope, purpose, and strength.
This is Humaning."

One influence, recently namedropped in an interview with Sputnikmusic, stood out from the others: Live. Vocalist Wil Martin describes himself as "one of the biggest Live fans" and a close listen corroborates this—more in the phrasing than the literal timbre of Martin's voice. It's not hard to imagine Live lead singer Ed Kowalczyk attacking a song like "Out of My Hands" in a similar manner.

Earshot are currently finishing up a tour in support of Saliva. Humaning comes out on digital platforms Friday, October 10 with a physical release scheduled for early 2026 via the band's own independent label, Earshot, Inc.
