The John Wick spinoff Ballerina is out today, and as luck would have it, "Hand That Feeds" isn't the only song featuring an icon of modern rock on its soundtrack. Evanescence have unveiled their latest song "Fight Like a Girl," a collaboration with rapper K.Flay. The latter is no stranger to soundtrack features herself either, having previously landed songs on shows such as Peaky Blinders and Bojack Horseman.
The song thematically follows the later-era Evanescence emphasis on standing on one's own two feet, fitting for the revenge tale that is Ballerina. K.Flay's delivery in her verse is airtight, and all respect to Paul McCoy, but if we can get an updated version of "Bring Me to Life" with her and Lee sharing vocal duties, that would be wonderful for many reasons.
Musically speaking, it is akin to the band's newer material, favoring a slightly less crunchy guitar sound for a smoother, pop-oriented sound. There's plenty of bite to it, but it's not reaching the detuned guitars on songs like "Lithium," for example.
And besides, any mainstream rock song that is all about female empowerment is worth a go.
The World of John Wick: Ballerina is in theaters now.
