This past weekend was filled with music representing a multitude of genres at the Louder Than Life Festival in Louisville, KY. Fans in attendance for Evanescence on Sunday, September 21st, were treated to a rare live performance of nu metal anthem "Bring Me To Life" featuring the original guest vocalist, Paul McCoy of Christian rock band 12 Stones.
Frontwoman Amy Lee has been vocal in the past about not being too fond of the rapping, as it had been included against her wishes when the track was first released to make it easier to market in a rap-rock/heavy musical landscape. She felt like it would promote the wrong idea about who the band was, but the label felt as if the song needed a masculine touch to make it less feminine and more palatable for radio stations. Lee eventually compromised on adding the male vocals, and the song proved to do wonders for the band's success.
That part of the song has largely been omitted from live performances, but when there is a guest vocalist available to join in, the band enjoys playing the original version for nostalgia's sake. Sonny Sandoval of P.O.D and Jacoby Shaddix of Papa Roach have both joined Lee before, and of course the original vocalist, Paul McCoy, has made a few guest appearances over the years including The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in 2003, the Kink Music Festival in 2016, and now most recently, Louder Than Life 2025.
