Among the progenitors of heavy metal in Europe are Accept, the German outfit known for iconic tracks like "Balls to the Wall" when metal was still finding its international footing. This year, the Teutonic titans are celebrating their fiftieth anniversary, assembling a cadre of musicians to take on their catalog. The latest offering from this release sees Korn drummer Ray Luzier join Anthrax bassist Frank Bello and Ghost's frontman and creative head Tobias Forge take on Accept's "Save Us."
The track, taken from the band's 1980 album I'm A Rebel, sees Forge command the mix, arguably making the song sound like something from Ghost's modern era. Luzier's drumming is in the pocket, making a solid backbone of a rhythm section with Bello's bass parts.
Says Accept's Wolf Hoffmann on the new version of "Save Us":
"Tobias was not really on my radar. Obviously, I know Ghost, and they're huge, but last year he turned up at one of our shows when we played in Stockholm, and we were chatting a little bit, and he said that his favorite song was 'Save Us,' and at one point. he was considering using it as a cover song on one of their albums, but it never panned out. 'Save Us?' I don't even remember that song. Nobody has even mentioned that song! I had to go back and listen to it. After I saw a Ghost show, it all made sense to me. It really fits his style and I could really imagine him doing that song really well. He's right, it's a fun song!"
