Since its release last month, the Sony Pictures Animation film K-Pop Demon Hunters has broken records for the streamer, with songs by the in-universe groups HUNTR/X and Saja Boys dominating charts both in the US and abroad. As such, metal musicians everywhere all around the world are giving the tunes a heavy makeover, as Carcosa guitarist Andrew Baena, Cantina Thirteen guitarist Phasestep, and independent vocalist Lauren Babic have done with the battle theme from the film, "How It's Done."
Babic embodies Rumi, Mira, and Zoey perfectly here. Mira's parts are given the harsh vocal treatment, Zoey's dead-fast raps are done with dictation and power, and Rumi's sections are commanding as a leader's should be. The addition of the extended-range guitars gives the appropriate modern metal edge to things, but this is really about Babic's care taken on the vocals.
