Following a series of cryptic Instagram posts, Moodring have returned with the single, "Half-Life," their first release since 2023's YOUR LIGHT FADES AWAY EP. Along with the new track, the band have also announced they recently signed with Sharptone Records. Despite the success of the band's debut, 2022's Stargazer, lead singer Hunter Young's health issues caused the band to stop touring indefinitely. While Young has kept busy in the intervening years with Warspawn and PSYCHO-FRAME (also on Sharptone Records), this marks Moodring's official return.
Young had this to say about the track:
'Half-Life' was one of the first songs written after I received a life-changing medical diagnosis and was forced to grieve losing the person that I thought I was and had identified as for most of my sentient life. It was a devastating blow to an already-tarnished nervous system. This song and sub-sequential songs were my way of coping and writing an obituary for the person I lost in that doctor's office. But when looking at 'Half-Life' through a broader lens, I believe anyone who's ever been forced to face realities or truths they cannot change can relate in ways that weren't the original intention.
Young elaborated on Instagram:
"I wanted to take a minute to thank those who waited patiently for new music. My whole world changed drastically back in 2023 while in the studio recording the upcoming album, and I am very much still what I call "forever sick". This song is an obituary to my former life and the "what could’ve beens".
Regardless of everything, Moodring is still here and there’s much more on the way".
No word on when fans can expect more music, but for now, Young encourages fans to "pick up a shirt, join the Discord, Patreon, and know this is far from over."
