Head Automatica, the power pop/dance-punk project by Daryl Palumbo (Glassjaw, Color Film), just announced their debut album, Decadence, is getting a deluxe reissue. The expanded and remastered version will be available on both CD and vinyl and feature eight bonus tracks, new artwork, and new liner notes from music journalist Jason Pettigrew.
This new edition includes the non-album track "Candy Warhol," a cover of Squeeze's "Pulling Mussels (From A Shell)," and remixes by El-P, Mr. Mig, and DTC Jungle. Sadly, the B-sides from the Tokyo Decadence reference disc/bootleg are not included. Even less is known regarding if or when music from the band's scuttled third album Swan Damage will see the light of day.
Originally conceived by Palumbo and producer Dan The Automator (Gorillaz, Handsome Boy Modeling School), the band was a marked departure from his work in Glassjaw, taking inspiration from hip-hop and Britpop. By the time the band recorded their second album, Popaganda, with producer Howard Benson (Hoobastank, Daughtry, Three Days Grace), their sound had shifted to include influence from Elvis Costello and Squeeze.
The band reconvened in 2022 after a ten-year hiatus. In 2024 the group released the single "Bear The Cross," their first new music since 2006. The following year the band released a second new single, "Annulment." The band has since toured steadily with work on a new album reportedly underway and set to be released "later this year." This current iteration of the band is comprised of Palumbo, original guitarist Craig Bonich, Glassjaw drummer Chad Hasty, and bassist Richard Flesh (aka Rick Penzone) of Men, Women & Children and Color Film.
Starting in June, in celebration of this deluxe reissue, the band will embark on a West Coast tour. Exclusive signed and numbered physical copies will be available in-person at each show. Supplies limited to the first 50.
