Earlier this year, Kid Rock and Turning Point USA attempted their own alternative to the Super Bowl Halftime Show, looking to take away from the biggest stage in sports. While the affair was outdrawn exponentially by Bad Bunny's performance (and by the Puppy Bowl, lest we forget), Kid Rock's show now has another dubious accolade: it didn't win an Emmy, and Benito won seven.
Last night (September 5th) marked night one of this year's Creative Arts Emmys, held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, CA. Bad Bunny's halftime show from this year's Super Bowl racked up seven statues, sweeping every category it was nominated in. Bad Bunny himself was nominated as a performer and a producer, with the showcase landing awards in music direction, choreography, sound mixing, lighting design, and technical direction.
This may be a shock to some, but neither Kid Rock nor Turning Point USA were nominated for a single award.
While we wrote off TPUSA's dumpster fire for exactly what it was, this is a nail in the coffin from the industry as a whole. For people that want to extol the virtues of America, the TPUSA performance was a disaster, with issues in the licensing and streaming rights plaguing it mere hours before showtime.
And we'll just set aside the fact that Benito, a Puerto Rican, is in fact American. But I digress.
The entertainment industry has rewarded Bad Bunny handsomely for his display of unity and cultural collaboration. He has earned the wins he's received, including the Grammys he picked up earlier this year. And if Benito would ever want to step into the nu world, we would welcome him with open arms.
