Atlanta-based rap metal act Silly Goose has been making waves for the last couple of years with pop-up shows in unconventional venues, ranging from parking lots to fast food joints to–at one point–a Waffle House, but ran into trouble this weekend trying the same at a BP gas station in Chicago, IL.
The band posted videos on their Instagram earlier this afternoon of frontman Jackson Foster being escorted out of the improvised venue in handcuffs, and of an impromptu listening party they held across the street from the same gas station the following night. According to a later post from Foster, the band had permission from the gas station employees to perform, but he was charged with criminal trespassing for the stunt:
To anyone who is curious: I got charged with criminal trespassing (which is bs because the employees at the gas station gave us permission to play there) and I’ll be back in Chicago September 2nd to appear in court. I’ll post a full video explaining once I get home.
Silly Goose was in town for the Lollapalooza festival, and had opened the Grove stage on Thursday. Not ones to waste publicity, the band didn’t pass up the opportunity to promote their recent singles ‘Keys to the City’ and ‘Now Dance.’ A full-length album, also called Keys to the City, is scheduled for an October 10th release.
