The summer wasn't very good to Iowa's Slipknot, with the very public dismissal of longtime turntablist Sid Wilson being mishandled on all fronts. Ever the kind to bounce back, the masked outfit have dropped "Arsenal," a fiery five minutes that manages two parts of a whole that hasn't been done by the band since "Vermilion" way back in 2004.
The first part of the song is furious and fast-paced, before Corey Taylor abruptly cuts off the track and launches it into a slower, doomier breakdown, allowing for two sides of the same coin to shine. It also marks the first new material with drummer Eloy Casagrande, and the intro for this song would make Joey Jordison, metal gods rest his soul, smile ear to ear, evoking memories of that intro for "Eyeless" from the band's 1999 debut LP.

With the release of "Arsenal," aptly named as it is, comes the debut of (sic)est Records, the band's own proprietary label. Their last album The End, So Far was their last with Roadrunner Records, who famously scooped up the band in 1998 and had released all of their major releases to date. Following the sale of their catalog for an estimated $120 million last year, the band's future was in question moving forward, with some wondering if retirement was in the works.
This is a developing story, and given how suddenly this all came about today, we may be in for even more surprises from the 'Knot before long.
