After the success of her debut album Mortal in 2023, Daedric has been ramping up towards a potential sophomore offering. Just this year alone, she's released three singles: the crunchy and chaotic "Forbidden" with Wrigley, the electronic-leaning "Night Mother," and the metalcore-infused "Alien Skin."
For her latest effort "Callous," though, the project led by Kristyn Hope went for a more streamlined approach, with prominent synths and a melodic metalcore backbone. Short of the modern production values, this song wouldn't feel out of place on active rock radio about twenty years ago, but not to the point where the song feels like a gushing, excessive celebration of a musical era gone by.
