The family of Joey Jordison, beloved drummer for Slipknot and mastermind behind acts such as Scar the Martyr and Murderdolls, has released a Kickstarter campaign for Vimic, one of the side projects Joey formed in 2013 after he was departed from Slipknot. Vimic is a industrial/groove metal band with Kalen Chase on vocals and the duo of Jed Simon and Kris Norris on guitars.

The band did end up releasing three tracks back to back in May 2016: "Simple Skeletons", "My Fate" and "She Sees Everything". However when producer Kato Khandwala died in 2018, the project became harder to get off the ground. The heights of the Covid-19 pandemic made matters worse, and tragedy would further strike when Jordison sadly passed in his sleep on July 26, 2021.

Joey's cause of death, while not released to the public, was most likely sparked by an acute form of transverse myelitis, a rare neurological condition in which a human has inflammation in the width of their spine. If left untreated, a patient's body can shut down altogether. This led to Jordison's loss of motor function, which would force him to quit drumming.

His family does not want his tragedy to overshadow his arts, music and great achievements. The Jordisons already have been posting many of his art and their personal memories on Instagram, including a recently-unveiled first version of Slipknot's logo.

So why not release some vaulted material? This is where the Kickstarter comes in. While no official budget for the album has been named, it has been hinted Joey's personal art and merchandise collection could be offered as bonuses to backers. More will be revealed as we get closer to the official launch of the campaign.

Their statement on the Kickstarter is as follows:

"After years of working to secure the rights to the music, the Jordison Family Estate is releasing Open Your Omen independently to get the album into the hands of the fans that have been asking for it for years." Joey didn't do anything small. We want to release this album the way he would have wanted; with the designs he was so actively involved with creating for the CD, double LP, merch, and with the support of his fans to make the biggest splash we can upon release. "We have added personal items of Joey's to help raise the money needed to manufacture and distribute physical product, market the album, and host a night to remember as VIMIC reunites to perform an event honoring Joey's legacy."
