Earlier today, file-sharing client turned NFT platform, LimeWire, announced the acquisition of Fyre Fest with intent to revive the disgraced festival as a brand. LimeWire won the IP on Ebay with a final offer of $245,300 in July. The company beat out 174 other bids including one from Ryan Reynolds' creative agency, Maximum Effort. According to a press release, "This acquisition is not about repeating past mistakes – it’s about saving one of the internet’s most infamous cultural memes from extinction and turning it into something new." The official Fyre Fest Twitter account posted a video poking fun at the 2017 fiasco, asking "What could possibly go wrong?"

“Fyre became a symbol of hype gone wrong, but it also made history”, said Julian Zehetmayr, CEO of LimeWire. “We’re not bringing the festival back - we’re bringing the brand and the meme back to life. This time with real experiences, and without the cheese sandwiches.”
While specifics are still under wraps, fans can sign up for the waitlist and purchase merch at https://fyrefestival.link which redirects to the actual website. Though this redirect seems designed to obscure the site's Mexican domain, the company insists this attempt at zombie brand synergy is "grounded in technology, transparency, and a sense of humor."
See? Nothing to worry about.
NFT and AI fans needn't worry about a change in the company's priorities. The press release continues:
"Over the coming months, LimeWire will unveil a reimagined vision for Fyre — one that extends beyond digital culture and taps into real-world experiences, community, and token-driven access. While the full roadmap remains under wraps, one thing is clear: LimeWire’s LMWR token will sit at the heart of it all, powering access to future products, services, and whatever unexpected turns the Fyre story takes next."
No word on whether Ja Rule or Andy King will be involved in this new, totally legit, iteration.
