Filter's Richard Patrick will now have a industrial and deathstep duo under his belt. The Project A PLACE TO KILL, will release soon and promises to be "super heavy and just amazing". this has me skeptical but the recent Boyz Noize / NIN Collaborations and new bejalvin branching out faster in the EDM and cybergrind scene. However, Filter does have a leg up on most bands and artists branching out. Patrick was the touring guitarist within undeniably the golden years of Nine Inch Nails, particularly during the Pretty Hate Machine Tour.
Bands and artists get too ambitious when they branch out genres and side projects not just in EDM, but in general. It worked for Crosses, but not so much others like MGK. Not everyone can transition from Sonny Moore to a Skrillex. What gives me more apprehension is that this is a duo with one member being Jim Louvau, a famous photographer friend of Patrick. All information points to him being more famous for said photography than anything, but Louvau was chosen for his visual artistry and vocal ability. His massive screams seem perfect to Patrick.
On Jim Louvau, Patrick told 105.7 The Point the following:
"And he sings, and it's just super heavy, in-your-face industrial music for the apocalypse, basically. It's all inspired by the recent political events of the United States and the craziness that's going on down here… So it's inspired by just the nuttiness of this world. And it's heavy and fun, and I'm looking forward to releasing it. I think it comes out either June 4th or June 3rd."
With more on the rest of the project:
And it's called A PLACE TO KILL, and it's industrial. It's fully — what do they call it? — dubstep. It's like dubstep, but deathstep, is what we're calling it. It's super heavy and just amazing. And I'd love it if it ever got on the radio, but I kind of doubt it, 'cause it's just really over-the-top industrial."
The only information regarding the new project is the June 4th street date for their first release. We will be following this as more information comes out.
