Mike Stringer Confirms BABYMETAL Collab Started As A Spiritbox Demo

A story of "the one that almost got away," according to Stringer himself.

Amid all of the talks of collaborations and crossovers as of late, Spiritbox guitarist/producer Mike Stringer has recently revealed the origin of the band's most recent team-up track, "My Queen."

The BABYMETAL x Spiritbox song, which dropped along with the former's METAL FORTH earlier this month, began as a demo recorded by Stringer, which the girls in the Japanese idol trio took a liking to and ran with.

Stringer tells the story in an interview with Steve O'G, which you can see a clip of below:

"It was an old demo that we never got to use," explained Stringer. "Me and Courtney did a couple of sessions with Drew Fulk and Zakk Cervini, and Drew was working with BABYMETAL. And he was like 'Dude, BABYMETAL loves this song. They think it's really great.' And I was like 'I've always thought about it too, I thought it was really cool. I always felt like we were so close to unlocking that final piece of it or whatever. They did their thing and I heard the version of it back with BABYMETAL on it and I was like 'man, this works so well. This is so perfect, this is so cool.' And then we got Courtney on it, and she did her thing on it, and it lined up."

He goes on to talk about it being "the one that almost got away," and given Spiritbox's history with calling audibles regarding bangers, it's great to see that their judgment has paid off for them on more than one occasion.
