We here at the Agenda have had our eye on Southwestern UK upstarts and recent London scene darlings Prodigal for some time, and are pleased to report that the band has announced their signing with In Bloom, Nu Metal Agenda Worldwide, and Deep Love Recordings, which already has a deep bench of new nu including Rev3rent, Fifi, and Empty Shell Casing. After ten days of cryptic messages and teasers arriving in a slow trickle through the 'Crazy ass moments in nu metal history' Instagram page, the band finally kicked the door down with a brand new single and visualizer, aptly titled ‘The Door.'
Laid against a set of Blair Witch Project-style found footage, performance clips, and possessed nuns seen through glitched-out television snow, the new single is raw and uncompromising, simultaneously of our time and just outside it, managing to evoke the crushing weight of French prog-metallers Gojira, the energy of Deftones' first garage practices in '90s Sacramento, and the brutal-yet-sensual rhythmic tightrope of Coloring Book-era Glassjaw, all in a shockingly brief but deeply impactful two minutes and forty seconds.
Prodigal slots perfectly into a rapidly-metastasizing UK scene alongside bands like Loathe and Profiler, demonstrating an equal level of comfort riding a perfect balance between artfully immersive atmosphere and stank face-inducing brutality, and ‘The Door’ is an excellent introduction to the band's alluring yet explosive sound.
