Japanese genre-benders Paledusk have released their first single since they unleashed their killer debut studio album, Paledusk, late last year. Despite being around for years, their success skyrocketed in 2025 when their song "HUGs" was used for the hit new anime, Gachiakuta. Paledusk didn't take this opportunity lightly. With a whole new audience of fans, they geared up to release their debut album and were ready to show the world exactly who they are. Paledusk have spent their time touring and promoting the album, and ten months later, they are back to releasing new music.
This band embodies the phrase "expect the unexpected", and this song is a great example of that. "Golden Goal" starts off with alternating between regular rapping and scream rapping, kind of giving J-pop vibes at the same time. One minute into the track, it starts to sound more like a traditional Paledusk song with the chaotic and funky energy. They're known for their fusion of genres, which includes pop, hip-hop, metalcore, jazz, and electronic, and this track is no different. One can never predict what direction Paledusk are taking us throughout their songs, but that's part of the fun.
While the beginning is fast-paced and upbeat, the end slows it down with a heavy breakdown reminiscent of late 2000s metalcore. The lyrics express the desire to aim far and high with one's goals, and never stopping or slowing down until those goals are realized. No matter how crazy or unattainable the goals may seem, if one works hard enough, they can achieve their dreams.
