Sol Invicto are back. This new collaboration features British drummer/label owner Technical Itch and focuses on "dark drum & bass fused with heavy industrial metal guitars" courtesy of Deftones guitarist Stephen Carpenter. Sol Invicto's Bandcamp page describes "Clarity" with the following:
A dark industrial drum & bass metal hybrid, the track blends Stephen Carpenter’s heavy, detuned guitar riffs with Technical Itch’s sinister soundscapes and raw amen edits over dense, rolling production.
The result is an aggressive, low-end driven beast that merges relentless jungle breakbeat energy with nasty detuned metal riffs.
Initially comprised of producer/composer/guitarist Richie Londres, percussionist Eric Bobo (Beastie Boys, Cypress Hill), and Carpenter, the group formed in the late 2000s. Eventually, the group would grow to include SikTh drummer Dan Foord. Initial releases were limited to the band's exclusive online community, the Sol Invicto Comiti. It was not until 2023 that the band decided to release their music to streaming and download platforms.
In 2024 the band released their debut EP, Loosely Aware. Since the band's inception, collaborators have included Deftones, Asking Alexandria, Xander Raymond Charles (XRC), and drummer/multi-instrumentalist Zach Hill (Death Grips, Wavves, Team Sleep). Fun Fact: Hill and Carpenter previously collaborated on Deftones' 2020 album OHM. Hill's fingers provide snapping during "The Spell Of Mathematics," one of the album's standout moments.
Sol Invicto are currently releasing their newest project, Vault of Shadows, an "experimental album for things we cannot place, demos, ideas, lost tracks" monthly, one track at a time. Meanwhile, fans can see Cypress Hill on tour this summer, hitting up tons of festivals and their Once Upon A Time In The Summer Tour in July. The band's first full-length Spanish release, Dios Bendiga, arrives July 24th. The group will also take part in Tom Morello's Power To The People concert on October 3rd. In August, Deftones will head to Europe/the UK in support of their Grammy-nominated album private music. Stops will include Pukkelpop and the band's massive All Points East show in London with special guests IDLES, Amyl & The Sniffers, JPEGMAFIA, Deafheaven, and more.
