Shoegaze goes pop or whatever those compilations were called.

Australia's triple j is the home of the viral hit show "Like A Version," in which their guests play a song of their choosing in their style. We've seen such hits as Denzel Curry's take on Rage Against The Machine's "Bulls on Parade" and Poppy's interpretation of Sabrina Carpenter's "Taste," the latter of which featured on our list of Best Nu Metal Covers.

On their recent appearance, alt-metal act Thornhill played Lady Gaga's megahit "Paparazzi," giving their dreamy but dense riff on Mother Monster's 2008 hit. In crafting the cover, the band talk about the heavier electronics in the original's bridge, which led to the "more organic" feel of their own heavier section in their rendition. They also discussed the difficulty in turning a pop song into a "bandier" song, wanting to stay faithful to the genuine article while also maintaining their own sound.

All told, the final result feels like a shoegaze-y mix that is a more than serviceable iteration of one of the songs that made Lady Gaga famous.

Thornhill released their latest album Bodies in April.
