Paris-based quintet Novelists have dropped their new single "Ravage," full of groove and panache. It's a nu-pop anthem with leanings on progressive metal like Polyphia and Meshuggah, with vocalist Camille Contreras showcasing her range from screams to "hey! hey!" callouts that will surely garner a chant-along at live shows. The cello sections add a darker heft to things, a bit of a classical gravitas to balance out the bounciness of the track as a whole. It's busy, but that shouldn't be mistaken for it being uninspired.
The band offers the following about the new track:
"'RAVAGE' was never meant to play it safe. We kept pushing the track further: Heavier, more melodic, wilder… until a baroque cello somehow felt like the most natural thing in the world. The video came from exactly the same impulse. We had the budget to make life easier and hand the project over to a big production company, but we chose to produce most of it ourselves, to make that budget go as far as possible, and achieve the most ambitious result we could. There's something very Novelists about doing everything ourselves, even when it makes our lives unnecessarily complicated, simply because we're obsessed with bringing what's in our heads to life exactly as we imagine it."
