In the Attitude Era of pro wrestling, few tag teams were as prolific or ground-breaking as The Dudley Boyz. Between their incredible, riot-inducing run in ECW and their game-changing stint in WWF/E, Bubba Ray and D-Von helped to revolutionize tag team wrestling, innovating the Tables, Ladders, and Chairs (oh my!) match.
They were so good, in fact, that one of their greatest catchphrases was coined by complete accident.
In a recent episode of Insight with Chris Van Vliet, D-Von Dudley spoke about how "D-Von, get the tables!" came to be. Like many great moments in, it began as a rib. D-Von, real name Devon Hughes, forgot to get the tables one night, and had to be reminded in the moment by Bubba Ray. This turned into gentle reminders moving forward, which upset D-Von. After a while, Bubba realized that there might be something, as the camera mics had picked up the chatter on previous occasions, and so one night they leaned into it, and the rest is history.
They go on to talk about the crowd work involved, including Bubba's attempts to do the bit with other wrestlers, namely R-Truth and Homicide.
