SLAM BAND Bust Heads (Among Other Things) On "PEEWEE JERKIN"

#GutterGang, turn up! SLAM BAND, the slam metal project featuring the members of the North Carolina downtempo deathcore band FILTH, are at it again. This latest helping of "ignorant slam shit" is all about, for lack of a better term, whackin' it. Or, at least, one very famous instance of whackin' it. Entitled "PEEWEE JERKIN," this new track makes several nods to the late Paul Reubens, aka Pee-wee Herman, who was arrested and charged in 1991 for indecent exposure after he was caught masturbating in an adult movie theater in Sarasota, Florida. All while continuing their war on good taste (and intelligible lyrics).

Given the band's m.o. ("We Slam, Fart, and Barf"), it's not too surprising that they found their way to discussing other bodily excretions (singer Dustin Jamaal Mitchell's alter ego is Dr. Splooge after all). Still, who could have guessed the Emmy-winning star and creator of Pee-wee's Playhouse would tag along?

Kicking off with a sample of a pre-AI Pee-wee Herman edit, the track launches into 100 seconds of pummeling riffs, skull-cracking drums, and unhinged guttural mayhem from Mitchell. Occasionally punctuating the chaos is Herman's trademark honking laugh. While the title alludes to Reubens' most infamous moment, the bulk of the track explores more confrontational subject matter. Going off one of the few discernable lines ("The pussy out of line / The pussy get they head bust"), this track is the sound of the band preparing to lay the smackdown something fierce. This song isn't so much about alternative uses for movie theater butter (see the track artwork below) as it is about whooping ass and laughing obnoxiously the whole way through.

The track's title, "PEEWEE JERKIN," was likely chosen to be funny and eye-catching, rather than a one-to-one encapsulation of the lyrical themes. Similarly, the earlier single, "BOOBIE HILL," features plenty of King of the Hill soundbites, but nothing explicitly about breasts. "DOOKIE," on the other hand, seems to evoke exactly what it promises. SLAM BAND: a land of contrasts.

European and UK fans can catch FILTH right now on tour with XOXO and Kanine. Starting in September, they, along with Gutter King and Feels Like Home, will support Opal In Sky on their Beavers & Bears Cross Canada Tour. The band just added two new shows: on September 23rd, they'll be headlining in Thomasville, Pennsylvania, with support from Behead the Betrayer, Casual Cruelty, and morimvr; on the 26th, they'll be headlining in Dunbar, West Virginia, with opening local acts Vilomah, Messenger Vessel, Head/Split, and NearDeth.
