Chat Pile Announce New Album 'Who Loves The Sun' With Lead Single "Deep Blue"

With this new track, the Oklahoma City noise/no wave/sludge band delve deeper into their apocalyptic vision of humanity.

New Chat Pile has arrived! And there's more on the way! Underground noise/no wave/sludge band Chat Pile have just announced their new album, Who Loves The Sun, with the release of the first single, "Deep Blue." Their third full-length album (fourth if you include In The Earth Again, their collaboration with avant-garde guitarist Hayden Pedigo, and really, why wouldn't you?) Who Loves The Sun is the follow-up to their acclaimed 2024 album Cool World.

The album is comprised of ten tracks and features guest appearances from Nightosphere's Claire Hannah and Brittany Sawtelle. Like Cool World before it, Who Loves The Sun was recorded by the band and mixed by Uniform guitarist Ben Greenberg (Couch Slut, Foetus, Lathe of Heaven). The album arrives September 4th via The Flesner. Pre-orders for CDs, LPs, and cassettes are available here.

If you thought Chat Pile might acquiesce to the AI hype currently encroaching on the music industry, think again. Per the band's official statement:

[Chat Pile] create a crushing, crass, and cathartic take on noise rock that captures a raw, undeniably human essence in an age marked by technological overreach and the cold state of society. Nothing about Who Loves The Sun feels synthetic.

The band go on to describe how this new album fits into their already impressive discography:

Whereas their debut album God’s Country depicted a particularly American flavor of dread, and the follow up Cool World showed a cruel planet defined by global systemic violence, Who Loves The Sun peels the skin back on how collective indifference defines this new century. Spanning imagery of coastlines devouring cities, dead-end jobs, and submission to data-driven inauthenticity, the album dissects the apathy-bloated state of 21st-century existence as a slow-motion apocalypse.
Feel the skin on your face melt down / And Feel all the best parts of yourself drown / And let the mask become a part of your life / Let them know that they've chosen the right guy

This new single, "Deep Blue," retains the urgency of Cool World while continuing the more claustrophobic sound developed on In The Earth Again's centerpiece "The Matador." While not labeled as such, the lyrics to "Deep Blue" bring the band's series of mask/masc tracks to mind. Similarly, this new album's title suggests a wealth of themes in dialogue with the apocalyptic light/aboveground vs. dark/underground imagery of In The Earth Again. The screen-induced horror recalls some of the more harrowing moments on Cool World.

But that could never be / You move deeper into screens / Into the deep blue sea / You move deeper into screens

2026 had been a busy year for Chat Pile. The band just wrapped a tour of Japan and are currently making their way through Australia and New Zealand with BEASTWARS. Special guests include Hence Confetti, Bentham's Head, SLOWCUT, and Rocky's Pride & Joy. Starting in August, the band will tour Europe and the UK with Ragana, HEALTH, and Carpenter Brut. February saw the band's first release with legendary Seattle label Sup Pop.
