Limp Bizkit's Wes Borland Opens Up About Sam Rivers' Death

The guitarist says the band lost “a piece of our DNA” following the bassist's passing last year.

Limp Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland has spoken publicly about the death of bassist Sam Rivers for the first time since his passing last October.

In a recent interview with Heavy Consequence, Borland reflected on the loss of his longtime bandmate, describing Rivers as an irreplaceable part of the band's identity.

“He was like family,” Borland said. “It’s just like we lost a piece of our DNA. It’s too hard to talk about right now in depth.”

The guitarist also praised current touring bassist Richie Buxton, who has been performing with Limp Bizkit since Rivers' death.

“He’s such a great player, and he’s just a wonderful guy,” Borland said. “But Sam is not a replaceable person.”

Borland went on to describe Rivers as “the heartbeat” of Limp Bizkit, adding that the band has moved from the initial shock of the loss into a period of grieving.

“I think that last year when it happened, we were all kind of in shock, and now we’re all grieving,” he said.

Despite the loss, Limp Bizkit continue to perform live and are currently appearing on the European festival circuit before returning to the United States for appearances at Summer of ’99 and Beyond, Inkcarceration, Louder Than Life, and Aftershock.
