Dope Notch First RIAA Gold Record With "Die MF Die"

Twenty-five years after the song's release, Dope have their first gold record stateside.

Dope have earned their very first Gold record, as the song "Die MF Die," taken from their second album Life, has reached 500,000 units sold in the US. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) awarded the certification to the band, fittingly enough, on April 20th.

While not released as a single, the profane track became a staple of their live shows, as well as becoming arguably their best-known song. The album dropped in November 2001, and nearly a quarter of a century later, the band have notched a major accolade.

This does come with a bit of a caveat, as the disgraced Tripp Eisen, who was charged with sexual misconduct involving a minor in the mid-2000s, co-wrote the song. Eisen has not been involved with Dope in some time, and this achievement is every bit the band's, not just his.
